TOPIC: Meet an India payments specialist

Date: Wed, Jun 20 2007 1:32 pm
From: Inside AdSense Team

We recently sat down with Amrita Kamat, a payments specialist in ourHyderabad office, to find out more about payments in India. When you'renot at work, where would one find you?In gaming parlors -- I lovegaming! Counter-Strike is one of my current favorites.

Running aroundand fighting opponents (while still sitting on the comfort of my sofaand sipping a hot mug of coffee) is the highlight of my weekend. I alsolove the outdoors, trekking, and sports like badminton and basketball. There are a few payment-related issues specific to India. What tips doyou have for Indian publishers?I have a 5-point Mantra for payments forIndian publishers:- Enter an accurate, complete address -
I'd recommend updating youraddress in this way:
- Choose INR checks over USD checks - This will reduce the bank chargeslevied (if any) to convert the dollar checks to Indian rupees. Also, the INR checks will be easy to process.- Set a self-hold - If you've reached $100 in unpaid earnings and wouldlike to get paid once in 2 months or once every 6 months, we have anoption to set a self-hold. Accumulate your earnings and receive abigger check in the future.

Don't forget that you'll need to remove thehold before the 15th of the month to be paid in that month.- Use Secured Express Delivery - For tension-free delivery of yourhard-earned money, try our Secured Express Delivery option, which willcost you US$25 for the DHL charges -- the check will be delivered atyour doorstep within 10 days.- Understand your payment cycle - Please go through the Payments Demoto understand when payments are processed.

It's an 11-minute demo thatis well worth your time! Why do checks and PINs take longer to reachIndian publishers? What are the other options? This can happen becauseof incorrect mailing addresses and the postal service. While nothingmuch can be done about the postal service at this time, I'd againrecommend that you update your physical address -- an accurate housenumber and/or house name can make a big difference to how a postmanwill locate your house. If you're relocating, feel free to place aself-hold on your account until you've completed the relocationprocess.

Please ensure that your address is updated before the 15th,and the address doesn't exceed the 35-character limit in each line. Finally, the only alternative for receiving checks right now is tochoose Secured Express Delivery checks over Standard Deliverychecks.Any weekend plans? This weekend I am off to Bangalore to catch upwith a few friends. We've planned a bicycle trip to Nandi Hills for apicnic. In the evening, we intend to make good use of the new telescopeone of my friends acquired recently. Isn't star-gazing on a Sundayevening an ideal way to end an eventful weekend? Posted by ShantiNanisetti - AdSense India Publisher Support--

TOPIC: A success story from India

Date: Thurs, Jun 14 2007 11:30 amFrom: Inside AdSense TeamWhen the Internet first boomed in India, many people proceeded withcaution -- adoption was fairly slow compared to the U.S. But a fewadventurous spirits jumped right in and have stuck with it for the longhaul. Among them is Babychen Mathew, who left a career in journalism tostart his own website, dancewithshadows.com. This site offers readersthe latest headline news and feature stories on various topics.Babychen started this site as a hobby, and perhaps as an extension ofhis profession. Very soon after launching, he discovered Google and the

AdSense program through various web development forums on the Internet. And the rest is history, he says."After exploring every bit of thisGoogle product, with a few trial and errors along the way, I'vediscovered on my own the best ad formats and colors that suit mywebpages," he reports. Having tried almost every AdSense format andfeature as they were offered, he settled for a vertical wide skyscraper(160X600) on the left sidebar and a horizontal link unit (728X15) alongthe top of his pages. "Now, with the help of AdSense Support, I amcurrently using a medium rectangle (300X250) ad format too, and haveintegrated it into my content in some sections to capitalize onpotential video ads," Babychen continues. "I've tried other online addistribution networks, and formats like flash ads and banner ads, but Iwas not very satisfied. While some were experiments, others didn'tcater to the Indian market, and a few others were plainirritating."Today, Babychen is a happy publisher, with most of hisrevenue coming from Google AdSense. And he says he loves to recommendAdSense to all who will listen! Posted by Shanti Nanisetti - AdSenseIndia Publisher Support
